今日はWhitel Buildingの第3階の（１，５）のうちの後者、すなわち第5連を表と裏で訳します。
裏の訳を読んだ読者は、これは一体なんだと驚き、こんな訳が何故生まれるのかと訝しく思われることでしょうが、他の詩とあわせて読んだときに、やはり、これは正しい訳なのです。いづれHart Craneの言葉の体系図、matrixを作成しましょう。

Chaplinesque
We will make our meek adjustments,
Contented with such random consolations
As the wind deposits

前回の訳をそのまま引用します。
ゲームをするならば、ゲームの規則があるから、いやでもその最高法規の執行命令を受け容れて、相手に点を取らせまいとし、相手のミスを誘い、嫌やでも応でも、（僕らの願う本来の規則正しい解決を図ろうとしながらも、やはり）作り笑いを作るが、しかし、僕達が実際にみて来たのは何かといえば、賑やかな笑い声の（小文字で書いた、世俗の）聖杯を、灰皿代わりに使われてそこに打ち捨てられていた（空虚な、空しい）空き缶から作ったのは、ビジネス街の表通りから一本裏に入った寂しい通りに映る月であり、そして、陽気なドンチャン騒ぎと世俗の騎士道の聖杯探求の賑やかな音や響きを通じて、その音響のどこからでも絶えず聞こえて来たのは、人間がまだ脚を踏み入れたことのない未開拓の領域、即ち荒野にあって、今にも飢え死に寸前の、一匹の子猫の鳴き声なのだ。
〔裏の訳〕
この薄汚い、金で色を売るような男色者のhostとguestの役割で行う性行為は、無理に愚かなへつらった笑いを強制執行し、相手に性具や歯でペニスを傷つけられても痛くないよといった顔をするようにその罰を男色者に与えるが、しかし僕達男色者仲間が現実に見たことがあるのは、そうではなく、男色者の中には、寂しい裏通りを相手の男を選り好みしながら歩いている初めての若者がいて、まだペニスの挿入されていない空っぽの尻の穴を担いで歩いているぜ、ほら俺の精液を詰め込んでやろうか、そんなことでもして刑務所暮らしで臭い飯でも一緒に食おうぜといったような、からかいの笑い声からなる男色者達の、精液を受ける聖杯となるのを見た若者の姿なのであり、そして男色者の陽気なお祭り騒ぎと相方探究のありとあらゆる行為の音や響きを伴う性行為を通じて聞こえるのは、まだ普通の人間どもの開拓していない未知の領域、この男色というまだ耕かされていない領域にいる一匹のか弱い猫のような快楽の声を上げる、そのような初心（うぶ）な男色者のその声なのだ。
〔解釈〕
(1) 不定冠詞が男色者の印であることは既に今までの連載で書いた通り。今回も同じです。A kitten, a grail。
(2) The moonは、いつも地球に後ろを見せずに、前だけを見せている衛星。実は、Craneは、男色者の行為とそのhostとguestの関係を宇宙の天体の運行の関係、そのシステムの関係と対応させて詩を書いているのです。それらの天体の名前は、sun, earth and moon、です。地球に対して月はいつもその尻を見せないのです。これらのことについてはもっと後日詳述します。この３つの男色者の関係を、例えば、To Brooklyn BridgeのVでは、Three Songsと題しています。勿論、C a space 33の33も同じ関係を表している。この詩についてはもっと詳しく論じたいと思っています。
(3)lonely alleyをここでは、上のように訳しましたが、実はまだ足りない。Lonelyには、ひとりでマスターベーションをするという意味をCraneは掛けている。だから、明るい通りから身を隠して、一人建物の後ろ側で暗闇に隠れてマスターベーションをしている初心（うぶ）な若者、尻を誰にもまだ売っていない若者という意味です。The moon in lonely alley.実感があるでしょう？発音してみると。
